Obama Seeks Small Biz Support For Health Reform

Jul 27th, 2009 | By Dawn Rivers | Category: Podcasts

Once again, just when it looked like there would be no podcast today, your trusty microbusiness webcaster rises nobly to the occasion …

We’re having one of those summer legislative seasons during which it seems as if nothing is happening but that is not, in fact, the case. Part of the reason for that is that the things that are getting accomplished — like the slow and steady re-authorization of the Small Business Administration — have been such a circus for so long that all this calm is unnerving.

Besides, not really much of a story there, is there?

That said, I’ll confess that I’ll be glad when the reform-minded get finished with their improvements and modernizations, so that the House and Senate Small Business Committees can get back to the simpler and less politically costly re-authorization bills of days gone by.

The other reason why it seems as if there is nothing happening is because … well, there is nothing happening. The big legislative story of the moment is, of course, health care reform. And there are only so many ways you can say, “They’re working on it.”

Granted, the political maneuvering is entertaining and it can be amusing to speculate on the levels of stupidity in the voting public (as measured by the degree to which they buy what is being said by politicians who admit that they simply don’t want reform to happen so that the President will look bad) but, as a matter of niche news coverage, it all gets repetitive after awhile.

This is probably a good time of year to ferret out a few slightly more obscure microbusiness stories.

You have been duly warned.
